Who am I?

Hello, I’m Jaime Rial!
From a very young age, I’ve been fascinated by music, film, and musical theatre. I’ve always studied music at home, with my grandparents as my teachers. My grandmother was a piano teacher at the Conservatories of Granada and Malaga (Spain) until her retirement, and my grandfather was a professor of Musicology at the University of Granada. Composition has always come naturally to me. At 14 years old, I gained popularity in school after composing the song «My name is Jaime,» which I used to introduce myself to my teachers in a humorous way. Later, I created a rap at the request of my physics teacher, which was also successful in my school. At 16, I began taking music composition more seriously. I completed my secondary education in Spain, where I received an A grade in music. I’m currently studying at the British College of Benalmadena (Spain), where I also completed the IGCSE at the University of Cambridge and received an A in music. This academic year, I’m studying the A Level course and I’m confident that I will also receive a good grade in music. I’ve also formed a music band with my schoolmates and help my teacher organize the school orchestra and choir. Outside of school, I volunteer one day a week at the Cudeca charity shop, which donates its profits to cancer patients.

After searching for university courses offered by public universities in the European Union, I discovered that Artez offers exactly the career that interests me: «Composition for Film and Theatre» in a country, the Netherlands, that I admire and where I would like to live. I like that the Artez study system stimulates creative freedom and work with teams from various disciplines.

I believe that one of my strengths is my ability to work with others. I play the piano, which I use not only for performance but also for creating harmonies and composing. However, I experiment with the sounds of other instruments, such as accordion, guitar, saxophone, omnicord, ocarina, melodica, cello, flute, and any other instrument I can get my hands on. The software I use for composition is Ableton and Musescore, and I’m currently starting to familiarize myself with Sibelius. As I’m inclined to experiment with the interaction between music and image, I use Adobe Premiere as well as some free animation programs.

SIX MINUTES THE MUSICAL

When I was given the option to write a piece with a time limit of 8 minutes for my A level music project, I decided to challenge myself by writing a musical which I called «6 minutes». Although I still need to find singers, here are the lyrics and music:

Rêve de printemps à Paris
This piece was part of my AS project. It’s supposed to represent my perception of Paris as a Spanish person.

Here’s a demo I made with the piano:

CHEERSY
I composed this music for a video game my friend Alejo made for a GameJam. After the GameJam, I decided to redesign all the art and add additional scenes to make the game more fun. This edition of the game was never finished, but it was a fun project.

JOJO’S GAME
Thanks to the same friend, I got involved in a video game project where I was asked to make the music for its trailer. This is the first version of the trailer:

This is the final version after some feedback:
